Conference programme

More than 560 scientists and keypeople from the industry are attending the conference held this week by CIRP, The International Academy for Production Engineering, in the days from the 18. to the 24. of August at the Bella Centre in Copenhagen. This year, the conference is held in Denmark for the first time.

A great deal of the world’s leading expertise in production engineering is participating in the CIRP conference and one of the ambitions of the event is to create a fruitful environment for sharing expertise and knowledge which will include many useful, future potentials for the industry.

Professor and Chairman at the CIRP conference, Hans Nørgaard Hansen from DTU Mechanical Engineering, has organized the conference and coordinated the collaboration with the sponsors.

Hans Nørgaard Hansen states that: “Facing the current challenges of Denmark in relation to industrial production, this is a unique opportunity to learn about the latest results of international research in production engineering and not least to present Denmark as a strong industrial nation with a global perspective and leading global companies.

Danish industrial production is responsible for very large export earnings and many jobs in the Danish society. It’s very important that we maintain and strengthen the production, because this is the key to the development of the new products which will secure the future export. The conference can contribute to bring Danish production into focus and create contacts with the strongest international research environments.”

Hans Nørgaard Hansen sees the record number of participants as an expression of the generally very large interest in production engineering in the industry and the engineering world.

Workshops and lectures
As an introduction to the conference, CEO Lars Rasmussen from Coloplast will speak about challenges in development and production of health care products. Director of GN Resound, Nikolai Bisgaard, will give a lecture about technologies and production of hearing aids.

Working parties have been created across the technical committees: ”Biomanufacturing”, ”Energy and Ressource Efficiency and Effectiveness”, ”Hybrid Processes” and ”Micro Production Engineering”. During this week, scientists from the whole world will also give lectures on assembly, cutting, design, electro-physical & chemical processes, forming, abrasive process, machine, production systems and organizations, precision engineering and metrology and surfaces.

About CIRP
CIRP is a highly esteemed international organization within the area of research and teaching in production engineering, and includes 550 reputable scientists from 41 countries (www.cirp.net). Through the publication of the influential journal ”Annals of CIRP – Manufacturing Technology” and ”CIRP Journal of Manufacturing Science and Technology”, which are both published by Elsevier, CIRP has placed itself as the pivot of the global research in manufacturing engineering and teaching in the globalized world of the future. Furthermore, each technical committee is holding seminars and conferences with more specific themes.

A publication has been issued and is available here.

The CIRP conference is also organized by DTU, Novo Nordisk, IPU, Coloplast, ATV SEMAPP, A.P. Møller og Hustru Chastine Mc-Kinney Møllers Fond til almene Formaal and Otto Mønsteds Fond.

Professor Leo Alting from DTU Mechanical Engineering is Honorary Chairman of the CIRP conference.
