At the celebration of this year's PhD's, Fengwen Wang received the award "PhD of the year" for her PhD thesis “Systematic Design of Slow Light Waveguides”. The award was given on the basis of the extremely high quality of the PhD thesis, and because Fengwen Wangs research already has had a remarkable international impact within the area of mechanics and optics.
Fengwen Wang comments on receiving the award: "I am extremely honored and grateful to receive the award of PhD thesis of the year. This award is an affirmation of the work of my supervisors and me during my PhD study. I would express my sincere gratitude to my supervisor, Jakob S. Jensen, and cosupervisors, Ole Sigmund and Jesper Mørk, for their invaluable suggestions and inspirations, and also to the Department for creating a cheerful and inspiring working environment."
For the moment, Fengwen Wang is working with Jakob Søndergård Jensen on the project INNODYN, where her focus is on the optimization of materials with non-linear microstructures. In February 2014 she will stay at FE-DESIGN in Karlsruhe, Germany, for 3 months.
