Synthetic Biology Tools for Yeast

The Synthetic Biology Tools for Yeast section focuses on accelerating rational strain building and current labor-intensive trial and error engineering. Furthermore, the section focuses on providing more tools for high-throughput screening of cell factories.

In order to accelerate rational strain building, the section designs, assembles and characterises synthetic regulatory DNA parts. The section also develops targeted multiplex genome editing tools for one-step biological transformation of cell factories.

To speed-up the selection of the best-performing cell factories, the section also develops biosensors for both small-molecule production and optimal precursor supplies required for bio-based chemical production.

All projects are aimed towards global industrial needs within design, build and screening of new yeast cell factories.

The section's aim is to produce: 

  • Small-molecule biosensors for high-throughput screening of cell factories 
  • Robust yeast cell factories with optimised precursor supply 
  • Targeted multiplex genome editing systems 
  • Characterisation of DNA parts and synthetic promoters for industrial fermentation

The Synthetic Biology Tools for Yeast section is located at The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Biosustainability, DTU Biosustain, and it is headed by Senior Researcher and Co-PI Michael Krogh Jensen.
