Women in Power - IEEE-ISGT EU 2013

Noel Schulz, chairman of the IEEE Power and Energy Society gave a dynamic and enthusiastic speech on the theme of network creation. Noel presented a clear message at the Women in Power event at IEEE ISGT 2013 held 6-9 October at DTU; “By recognizing differences between men and women as a resource can both create better new the technology and a better foundation for innovative companies.” 

Noel emphasized that women need to carve out time for a career and it can be done most effectively by making use of networks and cooperation with other women working for advancement of Smart Grid technology into society.

Women in Power was a special event during the IEEE conference aimed at career advancement, networking and education of women in the energy industry. The event was preceded by a networking lunch for women who work with smart grid and electric technologies and the men who think that there could be more women in the industry. This social and inspirational event introduced participants to the various aspects and benefits of networking with female colleagues from the Smart Grids development and applications research arena.

The European parliamentarian and Danish politician Britta Thomsen explained about the new Horizon 2020 research program, which particularly focuses upon the use of gender-specific parameters for the identification of new products and thus innovation and growth. Other speakers at the event included Jeannette Møller Jørgensen who is coordinator at the Research and Development Department at Energinet.dk, the national Danish Transmission System Operator for electricity and gas. Dr. Lina Bertling Tjernberg who is Professor in Electric Grid Systems at the Royal Institute of Technology KTH.
