Associate professor Björn Johannesson, DTU Civil Engineering is honored with the Kondo Daimon award 2013 together with his two colleagues in Japan, Hosokawa and Yamada both at the company Taiheiyo cement, Japan.
They are awarded for their models for concrete deterioration that they have been working with for about ten years now. The models are sophisticated in the sense that we solve about 30 coupled differental equations for multi-species diffusion. These transport equations are coupled to chemical action described by thermodynamics involving surface complexations. A huge amount of experimental data have, further, been used to verify the model.
The award is given by Daimon, Goto and Asaga whom are among the most famous cement and concrete researchers which in fact makes the award very prestigious. The award ceremony will be at Tokyo University 18 May.
