Two researchers from The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Biosustainability figure on Labiotech.eu’s top 10 of European academics excelling in translating research into business. According to CEO Bernhard Palsson this acknowledgement gives motivation to work even harder on science-to-marked efforts.

The two researchers from the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Biosustainability (CFB) mentioned on Labiotech.eu’s top 10 list are Professor at Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden Jens Nielsen, who is also Chief Scientific Officer at CFB and Professor Mathias Uhlen, Scientific Director at CFB.

Labiotech.eu has chosen Jens Nielsen for the list, partly because he is a pioneer of Systems Biology in Europe, partly because he has won several prizes, including the Novozymes Prize last year. They also emphasize that he has founded several companies, including Fluxome Sciences (now a part of Evolva), MycoTeQ (Denmark), MetaboGen (Sweden) and Biopetrolia (Sweden) and that he is scientific advisor to Genomatica (US) and Evolva.

Mathias Uhlén was chosen based on his teaching, number of publications and because he is co-founder of Biotage, Affibody and Atlas Antibodies. Also, he has been sitting on many biotech boards, including Novozymes and SweTree Technologies.

CEO Bernhard Palsson sees CFB’s representation on this list as an important acknowledgment:

“Our approach has always been on translating science into knowledge and business. We want to contribute to society with spin-outs and start-ups, and I am glad that this list reflects this work,” he says and continues:

“Given the thirst and need for innovation and start-ups in Denmark, and in Europe broadly speaking, this gives us even greater motivation to be more innovative and contributing to this new era of industrial biotech.”

Labiotech.eu is a leading digital media covering the European Biotech industry. Over 70,000 monthly visitors use it to keep an eye on the business and innovations in biotechnology.
