The Danish Society for Food Science and Technology invites to a debate event 29 November 2012 regarding the European Food Safety Authority, EFSA, celebrating the 10-year anniversary of its formation. The focus of this day will be a retrospect on the past ten years of work and a forward look on the expectations for EFSA the next ten years. The National Food Institute, Technical University of Denmark will contribute with a range of presentations as the institute play an important role as EFSA’s Danish Focal Point and contributes to EFSA’s advisory and scientific work.
The European Food Safety Authority, EFSA, was established in the wake of a number of food crises which had weakened consumers’ faith in food safety. EFSA’s work with evaluating food risks for European consumers and communicating food risks will be open for debate at the event on 29 November arranged by the Danish Society for Food Science and Technology.
Danish representatives from EFSA, the authorities, research institutes, consumers, the food industry and politicians will discuss the challenges and opportunities for EFSA thus giving recommendations for further activities. Director of Institute, Jørgen Schlundt, from the National Food Institute, Technical University of Denmark, who is a member of EFSA’s Advisory Forum, will speak on the cooperation between EFSA and national institutes, Coordinator Dennis Jensen, will speak on the National Food Institute’s role as EFSA’s Focal Point in Denmark. Senior researcher at the National Food Institute, Alicja Mortensen, will speak on EFSA’s work with food additives.
