DTU, DMI and GEUS have launched a joint web portal that conveys the latest observations and the newest knowledge on the development in the Arctic ice and climate.
DTU, the Danish Meteorological Institute (DMI) and the Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland (GEUS) have established the website polarportal.dk. The portal contains daily updates about the Greenlandic inland ice and the Arctic sea ice.
The main purpose of the site is to make updated information from this monitoring available to the general public, both nationally and internationally.
Daily updates
The portal provides daily updates on the surface of the inland ice and the Arctic sea ice.
In connection with the inland ice there are updates on surface temperatures, glacier movements and the mass balance. DTU Space is responsible for the monitoring of the Greenlandic inland ice in cooperation with GEUS and Asiaq (Greenland Survey). In connection with the sea ice there are nowcasts of the extent of sea ice and temperatures in the Arctic Ocean.
In addition, the site will provide access to scientifically based information resources.
The portal is financed by Energistyrelsen, Dancea Climate Fund (Danish Cooperation for Environment in the Arctic).
