3 Scientific Directors from The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Biosustainability appear – for the second year in a row – on the Thomson Reuters list of highly cited researchers.

The highly regarded information company Thomson Reuters has selected three Scientific Directors from the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Biosustainability (CFB) as some of the highest cited in 2016. These are CEO, Scientific Directors Bernhard Palsson, Scientific Director Jay D. Keasling and Chief Scientific Officer Jens Nielsen. All three where also represented on the list in 2015.

"Our repeated representation on the list shows that our work has a great impact on the scientific community" says Bo Skjold Larsen, Chief Operating Officer at Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Biosustainability (CFB).

Bernhard Palsson is the Center’s CEO and Scientific Director for the section "Network Reconstruction in Silico Biology". He is also working as Principal Investigator of the Systems Biology Research Group in the Department of Bioengineering at the University of California San Diego, and has co-authored more than 430 peer-reviewed research articles. He and his team use experimental and computational models to study cellular life in order to build vast databases of biological information.

Professor Jens Nielsen, Scientific Director for the "Yeast Cell Factories" section, is describing and changing the metabolism in microorganisms in order to get them to produce chemicals in a cost-efficient manner. The method can be used as an alternative to oil in the chemical industry.

Jay D. Keasling is the Scientific Director for the Section “Synthetic Biology Tools for Yeast” at CFB and is also CEO of the Joint Bioenergy Institute – a U.S. Department of Energy Research Center dedicated to developing advanced biofuels.
