The Global Econometric Modeling group at The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Biosustainability (DTU Biosustain) is looking for a talented and motivated Economist to analyze business strategies, based on developed (in-house) econometric models and forecasting infrastructure.

The project is responsible for performing a model-based evaluation of the technological feasibility and economic viability of commodity bio-based chemicals. The knowledge and predictions of this group would be utilized to provide DTU Biosustain with target molecules with commercialization potential. In particular, the goal of the project is to develop a comprehensive multi-scale and multi-sector model of the commodity chemical industry, encompassing both petrochemical and biochemical technologies. The outcomes from the framework and associated models will guide the selection of chemical products, biomass feedstocks, host organisms and process technologies to focus on, at DTU Biosustain.

Job Description

In this position, you will be responsible for designing and developing business intelligence strategies for stakeholders in the global commodity chemical industry. The workflow would involve incorporating curated market, technology and trade data to databases. Subsequently, utilize the same data to develop econometric models, forecasting methods and perform analysis for various stakeholders involved.

As a successful candidate will join a team of engineers and modelers working on econometric modeling and market analysis for sustainable chemical production.

Primary areas of responsibility

  • Design, develop and deploy econometric models/algorithms to develop business intelligence strategies, using Operations Research, Machine Learning and Statistical Modeling.
  • Application of statistical methodology, linear programming models, multivariate methods, cluster analysis, principal components and time series analyses.
  • Design, build and maintain statistical and econometric models.
  • Perform model maintenance and update analyses.
  • A successful candidate must be able to realize, implement and test strategies to create realistic market-scenarios based on past events for multiple stakeholders.

The selected candidate would be highly encouraged to implement new methods and algorithms which add value to the existing infrastructure.

Our expectations of you

  • Experience in using Python or similar computational languages to perform the econometric and statistical analysis is mandatory.
  • Must have proven ability to write high quality, structured and maintainable code
  • Previous experience with network optimization, production planning, price forecasting and supply chain optimization. If so, please provide specifics regarding these and append it to the job application package.
  • The current scope of work would involve making decisions with sparse information. Hence, the candidate is expected to deal with uncertainties in the input, understand its impact and proceed to implement creating models and workflows, which handles such uncertainties.
  • Work experience in applied statistics or econometrics is highly desired
  • Good interpersonal skills — able to work with technical and scientific staff with different roles and professional backgrounds and willingness to learn from others.

Engineers with an advanced degree in Economics or Mathematics are highly desired. Chemical or Manufacturing/Industrial engineers with relevant experience econometric/economic models are also encouraged to apply.

Experience with Petrochemical, Energy, Oil & Gas or similar industry projects would be an added advantage.

Fresh graduates are also encouraged to apply, provided, they have relevant experience with similar projects/thesis/dissertations and excellent programming skillsets (using Python, R or similar languages).
