The Global Econometric Modeling group at The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Biosustainability (DTU Biosustain) is looking for a talented and motivated software developer to maintain databases and create visualization tools for analyzing market variables and econometric simulations.


The project is responsible for performing a model-based evaluation of the technological feasibility and economic viability of commodity bio-based chemicals. The knowledge and predictions of this group would be utilized to provide DTU Biosustain with target molecules with commercialization potential. In particular, the goal of the project is to develop a comprehensive multi-scale and multi-sector model of the commodity chemical industry, encompassing both petrochemical and biochemical technologies. The outcomes from the framework and associated models will guide the selection of chemical products, biomass feedstocks, host organisms and process technologies to focus on, at DTU Biosustain.

 

Job Description

The full stack developer will be responsible for developing and maintaining databases for market, trade and financial information on chemical compounds. Subsequently, utilizing it to design and develop an appealing and intuitive web service that integrates visualizations of the data with our techno-economic simulations. The service will need to encompass static and dynamic data representation, elaborate interactive dashboards to comprehensively explore economic and market data and real-time economic and market indicators. As a successful candidate will join a team of analysts and modellers working on techno-economic and market analysis of sustainable chemical production.

 

Primary areas of responsibility

  • Design object-relational data models, methods and the API for a web service for econometric and market analysis
  • Maintain databases based on evolving data requirement from the model and analysis. 
  • Develop a web user interface for the service, including UI components and visualizations
  • Communicate with engineers/economists/researchers and other developers to collect requirements and jointly create and improve components of the service
  • Maintain and develop system based on continuous deployment strategies

Our expectations of you

A degree in Computer Science or similar or equivalent work experience in software engineering. Candidates with prior role in supporting econometric modeling work would be highly desirable. Following are the specific competences/experience that the candidate must possess:

  • Database structuring/maintenance especially for chemical processes
  • Implementation and usage of continuous integration-based deployments (Github->Jenkins->Kubernetes)
  • Websites development using React, ECMAScript 2018, GraphQL (+great experience in development with graphs libraries as D3, react-vis)
  • Development and maintenance of collective GraphQL API (modular abstraction layer for database interface, 3rd-party REST APIs, python-based Machine Learning models.
  • Writing clean and maintainable scripts in Python (especially data parsing, ML), Node.js (web-services) and Bash
  • Independent work on maintaining and developing a complex project covering all a.m. points

In addition, an ideal candidate is expected to:

  • Able to write high quality, structured, maintainable code, helpful documentation and proper unit tests
  • Good interpersonal skills — able to work with technical and scientific staff with different roles and professional backgrounds and a willingness to learn from others

Salary and appointment terms

The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union. The job contract offered to the qualifying candidates would terminate by the end of 2020.
