The Screening and Fermentation group as part of the translational Core Facility of the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Biosustainability (DTU Biosustain) is seeking a highly motivated fermentation/staff specialist in the field of microbial fermentation and physiology. The work of the translational Core Facility of the Center aims towards bridging the gap between academic metabolic engineering projects and their commercial application. The successful candidate will characterize newly developed cell factories from early stage screens up to lab scale fermentations as well as contributing to process and method development.

The position requires collaboration with internal research groups as well as the analytical and genome engineering group of the Core Facility.

Primary areas of responsibility
As fermentation/staff specialist you will be part of the Screening and Fermentation group and primarily focus on bacterial and yeast fermentations at different scales applying different strategies (batch, fed-batch, chemostat) and physiological characterization of the corresponding organisms. 

As fermentation/staff specialist you will carry out experiments independently and contribute to the development and set-up of small scale continuous cultivation systems as well as process optimization and method development. You will actively take part in translational projects aiming towards yeast and E. coli production and platform strains that are generated within the Core unit.

Our expectations of you
PhD degree in Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, Biology or a related field

Mandatory requirements

  • Running, controlling and maintaining batch, fed-batch and chemostat cultivations ideally for both bacteria and yeast
  • Experienced in interpreting data obtained during and after fermentation processes
  • Good planning & organization skills
  • Ability to work simultaneously on different projects
  • Excellent collaboration & communication skills (English)
  • Hands on experience with HPLC and GC/MS
Further qualifications:
  • Familiar with MATLAB
  • Experienced applying omics techniques for system wide studies, especially metabolomics and fluxomics
  • Experience with small scale cultivation systems and screening assays
  • Experience in organizing work with lab technicians and students

Salary and appointment terms
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union.

The place of employment is the DTU main campus in Lyngby.
The position is permanent.
