We are seeking a talented and enthusiastic software engineer to develop experimental design, data collection and learning features for our software platform supporting the genetic engineering of microbial strains.

The job
At the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Biosustainability (CFB), we engineer commercialization-ready “cell factories” for the production of biochemicals and therapeutics. You will join the Software Engineering & Applications group of our Computational Biology unit.

We are developing a comprehensive research platform consisting of services and algorithms for automated data import from lab instruments, data warehousing, processing and analysis written in Python with a GraphQL API, as well as an integrated web application with an interface written in TypeScript and Angular.
As a software engineer joining our team, you will develop new features together with other software engineers and with the input of our researchers. You should enjoy cooperating with others and be willing to grow and nurture your own talent and that of your teammates.
Primary areas of responsibility:

  • Develop user interface components, algorithms and web services
  • Communicate with researchers and other developers to gather feedback and team up on creating and improving tools for the platform
  • Design data structures, models and APIs for services
  • Apply agile software development practices to develop, collaborate on, and deploy software using version control, continuous integration and Docker containers
Our expectations of you
A degree in Computer Science or similar or equivalent work experience in software engineering is required.

In addition, you should have the following qualifications:
  • Ability to write high quality, structured, and maintainable code
  • Demonstrable experience developing single-page web applications using modern JavaScript frameworks and/or developing tools and web services in Python
  • Experience writing helpful documentation and appropriate unit tests
  • Good interpersonal skills — the ability to work with technical and scientific staff with different roles and professional backgrounds and a willingness to learn from others

Salary and appointment terms
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations or other relevant collective agreement based on your educational background. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.
